I have sensitive skin and sometimes suffer from allergies. Are your products suitable?
All Darl’ products have been formulated to be appropriate for use on sensitive skin, however if you have specific concerns please trial a small test patch before use.
I have an allergy to synthetic fragrances and perfumes?
Darl’s products contain no synthetic perfume or fragrance ingredients so will not trigger these allergies. Our products are scented exclusively with essential oils to 1% concentration or less, meaning they are very unlikely to cause skin sensitization or irritation regardless of known allergies.
What's the expiry date?
All Darl’ products have a minimum of a 12 month shelf life from opening. To extend the shelf life of your products for maximum efficacy and freshness, we recommend storing in a dry, cool place, away from direct sunlight, always replacing the cap after use.
What preservatives do you use?
The only Darl’ product that contains a preservative is our Serum. Our Cleanser and Oil products do not contain preservatives, just supportive levels of antioxidants that not only support the skin but assist in preserving the product. Darl’ uses an Antimicrobial, skin conditioning preservative in our Serum containing nature-identical chemical components; Glycerin, Water, Levulinic Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, p-Anisic Acid.
Are essential oils used in your products?
Yes, we use a blend of essential oils in each of our products, to a concentration of 1% in our Oil and 0.5% in our Cleanser and Serum. These essential oil blends are not contraindicated as they are formulated synergistically and in insufficient quantities to trigger skin sensitization, photosensitization or irritation.
Are the essential oils in the products safe to use in the presence of sunlight?
Yes, the only potentially photosensitizing essential oil we use at Darl’ is Bergamot. Bergapten is the chemical in Bergamot essential oil that causes photosensitivity - we formulate using a Bergapten free bergamot essential oil so you can enjoy the scent and broader benefits of bergamot without any photosensitization.
What is the difference between a serum and a moisturiser?
Serums are typically lightweight formulations that deliver active ingredients deeper into the skin, they are usually thin and absorbent, leaving little, if anything, remaining on the surface of the skin. Serums also tend to address a variety of skin concerns, be it anti-aging, skin brightening, or acne prevention.
A serum usually has smaller molecules combined with a high concentration of ingredients designed to penetrate, improve and/or nourish the skin in some way. A moisturizer's job is to hydrate the skin and prevent water loss. Moisturisers on the other hand use a thicker formula to create a physical barrier that locks in hydration and prevents skin from drying out.
What percentage of active vitamin C is in Serum?
Our Serum contains 3% active ascorbic acid in the form of Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate.
What is the molecular weight/percentage of your hyaluronic acid?
Our Serum contains HMW HA.
I have oily skin, can I still use oil?
Yes absolutely, oily skin can often be caused by over use of harsh surfactants or alcohol based products, these products will strip the skin of its natural oils, weakening the skin barrier, leaving the skin prone to over-producing these protective oils. Hormones, stress and environmental factors such as humidity can also play a role in oil production - the Darl’ oil is a non-comedogenic (non-spot forming) oil formulated with jojoba, squalane and rosehip oils all of which actively help to balance the production of skin oils and lock in moisture.
Are any products contraindicated during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
No. All of our ingredients are pregnancy and breastfeeding safe, However, always check with your doctor before using any new products while pregnant or nursing.
